Got snow? Make snow cream!

We did get snow and it's beautiful. Such a rare occasion for SC to have snow. When the flakes started falling I put a metal mixing bowl out on the deck to catch clean snow. Well, our bowl was overflowing last night and we made the best batch of yummy ice cream made with snow. The kids may get a chance to make more snowcream today.

This is a great clip for Snowcream. I did not make mine outside. Too cold for me. Having cold bowls and untensils help slow the melting if not making this treat outdoors. An outdoor activity the whole family could enjoy.

Let it Snow! Let it Snow!

A most unusual snow is in the forecast for the Southeast. Will we see snow? The last "snow day" forecast here brought a 2 hour delay for schools and no snow. Nothing like a "snow day" without snow. In South Carolina are not use to getting snow so just the slightest indication gets us all excited.

Many kids have their eyes turned to the sky today, waiting. Well, it's a half day for our schools and Monday is Presidents Day with no school, so the snow couldn't have better timing. Hoping for a happy snow day!

It all started with packing away Christmas decorations. Feeling overwhelmed with the whole task at hand only made me think of other areas in my home that need to be decluttered. All of this clutter didn't happen overnight and the declutter process will take time.
You never think you have enough closet space until it's time to face the contents and decide to throw away, give away, or put away ( in a more organized fashion). I'd also forgotten how large some of my closets are, especially the one I chose to start this decluttering process. Results today: Items to give away-6 larges bags, 2 boxes and one rug! After cleaning the closet I got the kids involved and started going through toys/games. Some of the results today include their findings. We will be donating these items to a local charity. Thanks to my husband who deals with the garbage generated through cleaning out.
So as with any mission searching the Internet helps me. Sometimes I find tips, ideas, or get inspiration to keep plowing through. Here is one click that helped me with this project.

Wii is so much fun!

I have been busy playing my new Wii and I haven't posted anything new since getting it.

The games are great fun! Everyone wants to play, so I've been busy with a little competition. Well, blog I promise to post something new soon!

Family Day Trip

A day trip to Goodale State Park, Camden SC brings great family fun. What we found was plenty of sunshine, even though the ground was a little wet from the heavy rains we've had the last few days, and a perfect place to picnic, fish and just hang-out with the family.

One of the nature trails provided a beautiful and peaceful journey around part of this 140 acre lake, which was a civil-war era mill pond according to the information posted upon entry.

The cypress trees stand tall while their feet are sunk deep into this amazing lake. One treat was finding a large quantity of tadpoles. Tadpoles are a kid magnet because they are little, black and squirmy.





Of course my interest is photography and I was able to get some great shots including this lovely photo of the lake.

After a round of boccie ball it was time to head home until our next outing at this fine park.

One Red House of Birds

A well used bird house is a lovely thing. As seen around the entry hole of this house there are nicks and scratches. The occupants apparently widened the hole over time. This bird house is located out in the back woods of our home. We check on it when we're out hiking or roaming, otherwise it remains undisturbed.

This beauty was made by my parents and given to use many years ago. It has held up well even the paint job. I love to attract birds to my yard. So now that spring has arrived it's time for the feeders and houses to get a spring cleaning, too. I'm also looking forward to having hummingbirds in the yard again!

Childhood Memories

We made mud pies as kids, maybe it was just a southern thing. Entertainment had to be cheap back then and nothing beat playing outdoors.

Mom would give us items from the kitchen she didn't need any longer and we had fun!
